The name, Homeopathy, comes from the Greek word "homeo", meaning like, and "pathos", meaning suffering.

About Homeopathy, Homeopathic Medicine & Homeopathic Remedies

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that attempts to stimulate the body to heal itself by administering substances that cause similar symptoms in a healthy person. If raw onion causes watering in the eyes, nose and throat pain, the same raw onion when diluted and made as a Homeopathic medicine gives it the power to cure hay fever and tonsillitis. Homeopathic treatment and homeopathic medicine has the power to restore the imbalance within the body by acting through the sensitive nerves, reach and remove the root cause of the disease. Homeopathic remedies are used to gently stimulate the body's natural healing system (immune system) and help the body to heal itself.

  • Instead of looking at the symptoms of illness as undesirable, Homeopathy sees them as signs of the body attempting to heal itself.
  • Instead of suppressing symptoms, a Homeopath give remedies that would cause the same symptoms in a healthy person to stimulate his/her body's own restorative mechanisms.

Homeopathic medicines are made from plants, minerals, animals or chemicals and are potentised carefully in alcohol or water to reach a dose that is up to one part in a million. Small globules of lactose are medicated in this dilution and given to the patient.

Homeopathic remedies are non-addictive and have no side effects. Sometimes there can be a temporary aggravation of the condition that needs to be treated - this is normal and demonstrates that the treatment is working. Correctly-chosen remedies can work gently and efficiently to relieve discomfort and help the body to heal itself without toxicity or side-effects.

Homeopathic remedies are not selected simply to treat an isolated symptom or a named disease. Any disease is no more treated as an isolated segment in the body but with a revolutionary totalistic approach. The motto is: Treat the patient as a whole, and not the disease in parts. A Homeopath has to construct the complete Symptom Picture to understand the dynamics of the symptoms that the body is presenting, analyze the linkages between the symptoms and the disease and thus create or build a psychological profile of an individual.

What this means, is that two people suffering from the same condition can be given two different homeopathic remedies and homeopathic treatment plans. To work correctly, they must be chosen to match the way an individual's system expresses its unique response to the current stress and illness. Even within the same diagnosis, different people respond to different remedies. The safety and non-toxicity of Homeopathic remedies is reassuring; however, they still must be chosen carefully on the basis of specific information and used correctly or they may affect the symptoms only superficially, or have no effect at all.
